turtle pond + training

The turtle pond race on sunday was a sufferfest for me.  This was my first 35+ race and these guys are no joke.  Rode up with ccb fastman LD and watched him from the pack cover almost each attack including the final ‘winning’ break.  He crossed the line just a few guys behind Johnny Bold for 10th.  Not bad.   I was feeling good the first few laps and then started to lose connection on the hill.  The 4th time up the hill, I fell off the back and was not able to catch on again.  I think my strep throat from last week is still haunting me.  My penance for the poor performance, was an 8 hour day with wicked fast men JH and Jay Vincent of Cycle Center on Sunday.  We did 6:15 ride time, 102mi over the biggest climbs central Connecticut had to offer.  Here is a shot of John climbing Mohawk mountain after his seat post bolt snapped.  No seated climbing allowed.  Hopefully this tough weekend will help me come around for next weekend’s double header.
