Race 8 and toasted

Bloged in blog, cycling by sean Wednesday April 19, 2006

Did a wicked fast 86 mile ride on Saturday with the usual fast friends.  Avg 19.8 which is pretty fast over that kind of distance (for me anyway).  Worked alot on my cadence this weekend with help from JF;  I am really wasting alot of energy mashing some unnessarly large gears; being more concious of my ratios and my cadence is helping me out alot.  Jumped into the Wells Avenue training race on Sunday and felt great until a crash midway caused me to tweak my right knee.  The miles from the day before compounded the soreness and instead of risking further injury I dropped out and left a little early.  I am now into a light week; just chillin’ and rebuildin’.  Tonight is the frenetic Wednesday night ride.  I will hop into that with the freshest legs yet and will see what happens.  Hopefully TM and AD won’t make it and it will be sane.

hill repeats

A bit overtrained so taking yesterday and today easy. Still put in 5 repeats on ‘the big hill’ (ferncroft :) ) near my house. Photo_041306_003.jpg

bike rack + spoiler

The only thing sweeter than a miata with a gigantic spoiler is a miata with a giant spoiler with a bike rack clipped to the spoiler.  Excellent.

shelled in rowley

Did the Wednesday night ride last night; RK, JF, AD, KH, CM, BF, and TM were all there.  TM and AD kept the pace wicked high.  There was some nasty crosswinds as well. These factors plus the deep training hole I’m in right now (270mi in the past week) had me fall off in Newbury somewhere.  Shucks; it sucks getting shelled on that ride.  However it is the most fun ride there is.  Great folks, great roads.  Anyway; my ad-hoc periodization scheme puts me on a lighter week next week.  So hopefully will be able to stick it next week.  This is my last year as a non-master so I have to really elevate my game…

ouch

I just found out a racing buddy of mine broke his pelvis at the Beanpot Classic Criterium this past Sunday.  MR I hope you have a speedy recovery.  Our thoughts are with you.

race 6+7; onwards and upwards

Race 6 Marblehead; always a cursed race for me and this year is no different. First, a flat tire made a short warmup alot shorted.  And then during the second lap, there was a crash which ended up with PP (a new and very talented CCBer) working through the high winds to rejoin the field. Having a big week of training in my legs made this effort pretty costly for me and that pretty much blew me out of contention. (Tim: Sorry you lost your bet!!) Phil went on to get 2nd which was our team’s best finish out of the day’s 3 races.  This past weekend had me out with some friends (RK, JF, KH, DK, et al) to do a fast tempo 70 miler (19.3 avs!) and then on Sunday a race over at Wells.  Felt surprisingly strong at Wells; I thought I’d be dead after the big fast miles.  Perhaps all this hard work is starting to shape my form?  Also got to take the dogs on some long walks to enjoy more of the great weather.  I love this time of year; time to spend (more) time outdoors. 0604041926371dsc_0074-r_thumbnail1.jpg
