Tomato plants killed by evening frost. Last night 32 miles in the rain w/LD – the guy is fast. Zipped in to work today w/DK. We had a great pace – might have set a new course record but didn’t start my computer till a few miles in. Looking forward to the long weekend approaching. Recovering dog keeps us local. JBoss is cool. Might have some project time this weekend . . .

big weekend

Did 2 races this weekend which beat me up pretty good. Did the Lake Sunapee race on Saturday which was a really fun hilly course with lots of fun parts. On Sunday I did the North Stonington Classic which is the first running of this classic after a few year hiatus. Had a great time at both events and got the living daylights beaten out of me. Made some new friends and got to see some old friends. Thanks to DK and MR for carpooling with me and keeping the driving interesting. I really feel like I am finally getting somewhere with this sport. I can move about the (cat4) peleton easily. I need some rest now and several days worth of protein shakes and vitamins. Still feel like I need more climbing work before HHRR & FLSR.

bike riding / racing

A picture perfect 50 miler with two good friends 5:30am on Sat. DK and RK – two riders better than myself and I set out on a great morning jaunt through the north shore putting in over 50mi with a 18.8m/h avs over fun roads I’d never been on before. A great workout and a great ride. Sunday morning I found myself at Wells ave for a frenetic 26m/h avs 40 lap training race. I was a little O/T from Saturday, so I mainly sat in the middle and enjoyed watching a CCB master master: ‘JV’ beat up riders 10 years his junior. A fun day tarnished only by a tragic crash in the finishing sprint requiring an ambulance. The rider was conscious but had a head injury. Apparently he broke left without looking and caught someone’s wheel sending him tumbing. Hopefully he will be ok.

bird species role call

Had a great quiet weekend observing birds from our porch. Found m&f rose breasted grosbeaks, robins, chickadees, finches: gold, purple, male & female, titmice, bluejays, a downey woodpecker, a hairy woodpecker, a red-winged blackbird, a pair of common grackles, some orioles, morning doves, a crow, a few wrens, a couple of sparrows, a few nuthatches, a male cardinal, a towhee, and my favorite made a brief appearance: a red bellied woodpecker. It was cool to see this diverse set of species all in one afternoon. Our feeders are becoming more and more popular attracting more of a diverse selection of species. I am soliciting ideas to attract other New England varieties.

Century and commuting

Did a fun century Saturday with the club. These guys are awesome! Go CCB. What a great day for riding and checking out the scenery of the beautiful ‘North Shore’. Did a fun bike ride round the neighborhood on Sunday w/JL and a much needed trip to the grocery store. Also got an opportunity to share my bicycle commute with DK on Monday. Had a great time doing that.
